Hawaii Firearm/Gun Bill of Sale
The firearm bill of sale lets a person who owns a gun to sell it to someone else in trade for cash or check. Hawaii has strict laws (HI Rev. Stat. §134-2) when a firearm is transferred to another individual and it must be registered with the county the individual resides.
- The seller must notify their local police station by submitting the Firearm Notice of Transfer within forty-eight (48) hours.
Registration
All individuals registering a gun in the State of Hawaii must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and go with the firearm to a police registration station. The gun must be unloaded and placed in a enclosed container.
At the station the applicant must give their fingerprints and pay the $16.50 fee. If approved, the gun will be registered to the new owner until the gun’s ownership is transferred thereafter.
How to Write
According to State law, all bill of sale documents must be signed with a notary public present to become legally binding. Buyer and Seller must enter the following information to complete:

- Buyer’s Mailing Address
- Seller’s Name
- Seller’s Mailing Address
- Date of Sale
- Description of Firearm
- Serial Number (S/N)
- Make
- Model
- Caliber
- Financial Terms
- Purchase Price ($)
- Payment Type
- Condition
